For the past two years, Sion-based Euporos has been helping to democratize the purchase of physical silver across Europe. It enables private individuals to access this market for modest sums. A person can, for example, buy a coin worth 40 francs, or ingots worth hundreds of thousands of francs.
« The direct purchase of precious metal from foundries remains inaccessible to private individuals, except for those with considerable financial means. Transactions of this kind are strictly regulated and require a specific license for companies. Some companies, however, have managed to obtain the necessary authorizations to collaborate with reputable Swiss refiners, such as Metalor. »the Swiss precious metals refiner.
But why invest in silver today?
Silver is five times rarer than gold, and within 15 years the mines from which it is mined will be exhausted. Its value is largely undervalued today. In the medium to long term, between five and ten years, capital gains are bound to be attractive.
I myself bought a one-kilo silver ingot for 400 francs in 2009. Today, it's worth 1,200 francs. What a performance compared to a savings account, which yields barely 2% a year!
Gold is however, always more advantageous ?
I'm not disparaging the purchase of gold. On the contrary, it remains a good investment. But silver has greater potential today, because it will become increasingly rare.
Companies selling and buying precious metals often have a reputation for charlatanism. What sets you apart?
Many of these companies sell only misleading certificates, paper promises instead of the actual metal. Other companies have only small quantities available. They make their customers wait many months before handing over the ingots. By contrast, we supply new, certified physical silver, available within 24 hours.
We offer either home delivery or storage in our rented bank premises in Switzerland. The owner receives a certificate showing the ingot's serial number. This system guarantees each depositor his own physical ingot. Thanks to the traceability of the serial number, no one can divert the ingot for speculation without the depositor's knowledge! The depositor can collect his personalized ingot at any time.
Are you subject to external controls?
Each year, we commission a chartered accountant approved by the Swiss Federal Audit Authority (ASR) to check our accounts. We are also a member of the Organisme d'autorégulation des gérants de patrimoine (OAR-G), a self-regulating body for asset managers, which strictly controls the origin of our clients' funds. Our aim is to prevent money laundering.
If a man shows up with a briefcase full of cash, what do you do?
We refuse to do business with this person. We've already been offered 5 million in cash. Of course, in such a transaction, we could earn tens of thousands of francs, but at the first check, we'd lose our license. Our primary objective is to last over time. That's why we don't take any risks. However, as a financial intermediary, this does not prevent us from maintaining business secrecy with our customers, and accepting cash payments of up to CHF 25,000.
Who are your target customers?
We work internationally. We ship silver and gold to the four corners of the globe. Our website is visited in 160 countries. And in just two years, we've become the leader in physical silver in French-speaking Europe.
Our latest innovation is aimed at families. We've created a “Juni'OR” account for parents and grandparents who want to save in precious metals for a child.
