Las primeras monedas de 20 francos contenÃan una imagen de Napoleón I. Estas monedas pesan 6.45 gramos y son 900/1000 puras ( 90% de oro fino, 10% de cobre). Todos los napoleones tienen un diámetro de 21 milÃmetros.
Las monedas siguieron siendo acuñadas hasta 1914 en sus variantes de los cambios polÃticos en Francia hasta la Primera Guerra Mundial. La producción de Napoleones de 20 francos se vio interrumpida por el estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Los napoleones son uno de los sÃmbolos más fuertes de la estabilidad monetaria francesa en el siglo XIX y estas monedas de oro de 20 francos son muy buscadas por los coleccionistas e inversores. El valor numismático de algunas de estas monedas excede con mucho el valor de su peso como oro.
